Carbs get a lot of bad P. R. nowadays, but your body actually wants healthy, complex carbs like those found in whole grains, fruit and vegetables. Fresh veg are a real nutritive powerhouse. Veggies contain healthy carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and some even contain antioxidants. Any recipe that calls for lots of fresh vegetables is about to make a hearty meal.
Fruit is another good source of fiber and complicated carbohydrates. Fruit is also a good elemenet for sweetening up any meal. Fresh, in-season fruit is always a healthy choice.
Low fat dairy goods are a good source of protein, calcium, phosphorous, vitamins A, D, B-2 and B-12. Some dairy products are laden with fat and calories, so always look for skim or reduced fat. Skim milk, low fat yogurt, and fat free cheeses are good selections.
Fat is in general not a good choice, but monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and omega-3 fats are healthy in low amounts. Fats assist you in feeling full and give foods pleasant taste and texture. Avoid artery-clogging saturated and trans fats.
Sensible eating can be confusing, but if you look for recipes with these parts, you?ll have a healthy, delicious meal in virtually no time.
