Jan. 6, 2012 Honk your car horns New Mexico at 11:35am to celebrate the States B-Day

The public is invited to celebrate New Mexico's birthday on January 6, 2012 by honking their car horns for about 30 seconds at exactly 11:35 am which is the approximate time President William Howard Taft signed New Mexico into statehood a century ago.

Honking horns throughout the state of New Mexico by participating residents will kick off New Mexico's Centennial. ABQ RIDE will hold a birthday celebration January 6, with Mayor Richard J. Berry at the Alvarado Transportation Center and will feature a Rail Runner locomotive horn, a whistle from a vintage locomotive, horns from ABQ RIDE buses and car horns.

Centennial ornaments created by students at Van Buren Middle School in Albuquerque will be given out to participants at the celebration, as well as cake and hot chocolate.

Mayor Berry will cut a ribbon inaugurating a permanent display of photos at the Alvarado Transportation Center following the ceremony.
